The Gilchrist County Board of County Commissioners appointed Tammy Moore to be Interim County Administrator as the county begins its search for a new full-time administrator.
Former County Administrator Bobby Crosby resigned last month.
At a special meeting Monday night, commissioners began working on how to advertise for the position, including what experience the county expected from applicants.
Toward the end of the meeting, the board voted unanimously to have Moore fill the space in the interim.
Multiple commissioners said they had received emails endorsing Moore for the position, and Fire Chief James Campbell spoke to the board to endorse Moore.
Campbell said he had not emailed the commissioners, but Moore was going to be the recommendation of Gilchrist County Fire Rescue.
“She’s had multiple different jobs within the county that she’s helped out with, and I think that she’ll do a good job, especially as the interim,” Campbell said.
BOCC Chairman Darrell Smith endorsed Moore for the interim position, but said he had concerns for the long term with Moore also being on the School Board.
“She definitely has the ability to, as a leader, help us in the transition,” Smith said. “I do have some concern about the longer term related to her being on the School Board.
“And I talked to her about that, and that’s a lot of stress that can be with that, and there’s a lot stress with this position, and you combine them and there’s double stress,” Smith said.
Commissioner Kenrick Thomas asked for Moore to be compensated for taking on a “heavy-duty” role and asked Smith, Clerk of Courts Todd Newton, County Attorney David Lang and Finance Director Richard Romans to discuss a fair compensation and bring a recommendation back to the board at Monday’s meeting.
