Head Coach: Bryant Frye
Year at Trenton: Second
Last year’s record: 7-4
Seniors: 12
Returning starters: Six on offense and defense
You’re transitioning from FHSAA to SSAA. What made you make that decision?
Well, there’s several different factors, I think. Most of the rural area schools around this area got together. A lot of coaches talked about the FHSAA to SSAA. So it was kind of combined effort to get most of us rural schools to go together and get into the SSAA. So we kind of collectively did that.
And then what are you expecting in your 1st year?
First year in SSAA? I’m not quite sure yet. This is our 1st time, but we scheduled quite a bit of SSAA schools this year. We got a few FHSAA school mixed in there. So just a learning process as far as how their playoff and their rankings and stuff goes and all that. So I think that’ll be the the learning period for that.
And what are you looking for as the biggest gains going from your first to your second year as head coach?
I think the biggest gains is like last year, it’s our first year. So, new coaches, new system, way to go. I think it should be a little bit smoother in the 2nd year because they don’t have to learn as much. So I hope that the games will be a little bit bigger than it was last year.
Who are some kids that have stuck out to you through the spring and summer?
Brant Bivens, of course, you know, he’s gonna probably be our quarterback. Um, you got Zane Mcardle. He is our leader on defense, and he’s coming back this year, so he’ll be there. Zayne Braswell, he had knee surgery early in November, but he’s been cleared and he’s coming back. Zaiden Bon, of course, is anchor of our offensive line. Michael Pate. He’s done a great job. So a lot of the ones that came back last year. Wyatt Van Landingham, he’s another one that’s in the backfield and we got a lot of new players too that’s come in. So we’re hoping that this year we’ll have a good opportunity to be a little bit better than we were last year.
What games are you circling to set the tone for the season?
Oh, absolutely. From day one, it’s going to be Interlachen because that’s the 1st game of the year. You got to get that going and it’s this Friday. So we hope that things go well on that one, but of course, always the rivals, Chiefland, Bell and Dixie.
And is there anything that you think everybody needs to know about your football team?
I just think that just come out on Friday nights and you’re going to see the show and it’s going to be fun and they’ve worked hard over the summer in the weight room and everything. So I think they’re gonna put on a show for everybody. We’re going to be competitive and then we’ll just see what happens after that.
