Speed cameras come back before Trenton City Commission

Speed cameras for school zones, with which the board decided not to move forward last year, came before the Trenton City Commission Monday night.
Chief of Public Safety Matthew Rexroat said Williston and Chiefland had signed contracts with companies to install the speed cameras while Cedar Key was requesting qualifications from companies currently, Rexroat said Chiefland showed 7 percent of drivers speeding through school zones, Williston showed 13 percent and Cedar Key showed 6 percent.
Rexroat said in a study conducted at the end of last school year, 18 percent of drivers through Trenton’s school zones were driving at least 11 miles per hour over the speed limit.
The commission asked to have a representative from one of the companies at the Sept. 8 meeting.
