The Tigers did not let a shortened game affect their spirit as Trenton High School celebrated homecoming week last week.
This year’s theme was “A Pixar Homecoming.” Pixar’s goal is “to make great films with great people,” so THS’s goal was to make a great homecoming with great people.
Each class had a different Pixar movie around which they would base their floats for the homecoming parade and skits for Tiger Growl.
Twelfth grade’s movie was “Toy Story,” 11th grade’s was “Monsters Inc.,” 10th grade’s was “Inside Out,” ninth grade’s was”The Incredibles,” eighth grade’s was “Up,” seventh grade’s was “Finding Nemo,” and sixth grade’s was Coco.
Not only did the classes each have movies, each day had a theme around which the students were supposed to dress.
Monday was Cowboys vs. Aliens. Tuesday was Monsters University (dress like a frat boy). Wednesday was Barbie vs. Ken. Thursday was “Rhyme without a reason” in which students were supposed to coordinate with a friend and dress up as things whose names rhymed but were not actually related. The dress-up days culminated in THS Spirit Day on Friday.
On Wednesday, with help from the Gilchrist County Supervisor of Elections Office, the students voted for Homecoming King and Queen in the THS Library.
On Thursday, THS held Tiger Growl inside the new auditorium for the first time ever.
Classes and clubs got the opportunity to be actors and directors and put their own twists on Pixar classics. Those in attendance were treated to the films that the students had created.
The films were split into three categories: High school skits, middle school commercials and club commercials.
In the high school skit competition, the 12th grade took first place with their “Toy Story” skit, ninth grade’s skit, based on “The Incredibles,” came in second and third place went to the 10th grade’s “Inside Out” skit.
In the middle school commercial category, sixth grade’s “Coco” film was No. 1. Seventh grade took the runner-up spot with their “Finding Nemo” skit and eighth.
The winner for club commercials was the Yearbook Club, who created an infomercial-style ad for the yearbook, followed by Beta Club in second place and the Band in third place.
At the end of Tiger Growl, Rogelio Juarez-Jimenez was crowned Homecoming King.
Friday morning, the classes showed off their floats at the Homecoming Parade.
The float competition was split between middle school and high school.
The 11th grade’s “Monsters Inc.” float won first place in the high school division with 12th grade’s “Toy Story” float finishing second and 10th grade’s “Inside Out” float finishing third.
In the middle school division, seventh grade’s “Finding Nemo” float took home top honors with eighth grade’s “Up” float finishing second and sixth grade’s “Coco” float coming home third.
The Tiger football team dominated the Homecoming Game, jumping out to a 26-0 lead in the first quarter and holding a 40-0 lead when the game was called at halftime.
During the Homecoming festivities, attendants from sixth through 11th grade were recognized, as well as Mr. and Miss TES and returning Homecoming Queens.
At the end of the night, Jalynn Brown was crowned Homecoming Queen to finish off a successful Homecoming Week.
