Two Cross City men, 36 and 27, were killed in a crash at the intersection of US 129 and County Road 340 Thursday, according to Florida Highway Patrol.

Gilchrist County Troopers are still investigating the crash, FHP said.

A preliminary investigation indicated that the vehicle with the Cross City men failed to stop at the stop sign on 340 and crossed the path of an oncoming tractor trailer around 4:15 p.m.. The tractor trailer, driven by a 58-year-old man from Lake City, collided with the other vehicle, according to FHP.

The two Cross City men were pronounced deceased on the scene, FHP said.

The roadway was still blocked as of an FHP report around 9 p.m. Thursday.
