Trenton inducted Herbert C. Parrish Sr. into its Hall of Fame Monday night.
Born to Leander and Mattie parrish along with his brother, Thomas, and sister, Clarice, Parrish graduated from Trenton High School in 1946.
After graduation, Parrish worked as a pole lineman for the Florida Department of Transportation.
In 1950, Parrish enlisted in the United States Army and served in the Korean War. During his time in the military, he was awarded the Korean Service Medal, three Bronze Stars and the United Nations Service Medal.
He was honorably discharged from the military in 1952.
He married Barbara Joyce Chewning from Dixie County in December 1952. They had three sons: Herbie, Mc and Gene.
Parrish would then purse an interest he had gaine while working as a lineman: land surveying.
In 1958, he acquired his land surveying license and began a private practice, Parrish Land Surveying. During his land surveying career, he participated heavily in the development of Gilchrist County and Trenton with the construction of new buildings, schools, subdivisions and City of Trenton infrastructure.
In 1986, he turned the business over to his sons, Herbie and Gene, with whom he continued to work until he passed away in 1999.
