UF/IFAS Master Gardeners to Host Spring Plant Sale Supporting Local Gardening Education

Submitted
The UF/IFAS Extension Alachua County Master Gardener Volunteers will host their 2026 Spring Plant Sale on Saturday, May 2, from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Alachua County Agricultural and Equestrian Center, 23100 W. Newberry Road in Newberry.
The annual event will feature more than 4,500 plants grown by Master Gardener volunteers, including Florida native plants, edible fruits and vegetables, herbs, ornamentals, trees, citrus, and other Florida-friendly selections. Master Gardener volunteers will be available throughout the sale to help visitors choose plants suited to North Florida landscapes and answer horticulture questions.
With spring planting season underway across North Florida, the event provides residents an opportunity to learn what plants thrive locally and how to grow them successfully.
Proceeds from the plant sale support UF/IFAS Extension Master Gardener Volunteer educational programs across Alachua County, including Florida-Friendly Landscaping outreach, gardening workshops, guest speakers, and other public horticulture education initiatives that help residents create sustainable landscapes and gardens.
“Events like this allow our volunteers to connect directly with the community and share research-based gardening knowledge,” said Dr. Cynthia Nazario-Leary, UF/IFAS Environmental Horticulture Extension Agent for Alachua County, who coordinates the county’s Master Gardener Volunteer program. “The sale helps support educational programs that promote Florida-friendly landscaping, responsible water use, and successful gardening practices for our region.”
The plant sale is open to the public. Free onsite parking will be available, and cash, checks, and credit cards will be accepted.
