Trenton approves new tire store, to seek quotes for pickleball courts, park lighting

The Trenton City Commission met Monday night to discuss several issues.
The city approved a site plan for a new tire store on Lancaster Street.
AC Tires will use property that was once used for a trucking company.
The store will use the existing structures on the property.
City Attorney David Lang said the zoning category that the property currently falls under allows for automotive repair businesses, so a tire store would be allowed without a zoning change.
The City Commission voted, 4-0, to approve the site plan.

A makers market, where local residents can sell their handmade and homegrown items was also approved.
The market will be at the train depot on the second Friday of the month, with the first being July 11.
There is no vendor fee or sign up, but vendors will have to sign a waiver to set up at the event.
Trenton will updating its “Welcome to Trenton” sign.
At an earlier meeting, Lang had brought up the idea of an addition to the sign that recognized former Trenton baseball player and current Texas Ranger Wyatt Langford, similar to the one recognizing Easton Corbin.
The idea expanded to include Marty Malloy, another Tiger baseball player who played Major League Baseball.
Lang said he had spoken to Todd Bryant, Langford’s father-in-law, who said Langford would be honored to have a sign recognizing.
Mayor Robbi Coarsey Avery was apparently supposed to speak with Malloy but had not done so at the time of the meeting.
The commissioners voted, 4-0, to update the sign contingent upon receiving approval from Malloy to be included.
City Manager Brittany Mills said the sign currently did not have enought space to add both Langford and Malloy, so a redesign of some kind would be necessary: either by getting taller posts and raising the sign, or by adding signs to the side of the current sign similar to the state championship and FFA officer signs at Trenton High School.
Commissioner Lucy Coleman said she received a text from a citizen thanking the commission for updates to the parks, such as lighting and pickleball courts without removing basketball courts.
Mills said the board had not voted to make those updates, but she could work on getting quotes for those things for the board’s information.
The board approved Mills getting quotes, 4-0.
