The University of Florida’s Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (UF/IFAS) Extension Master Gardener volunteer (MGV) course is an opportunity to connect with like-minded folks, gain new skills, increase personal satisfaction, share horticulture knowledge with others and creatively use free time. Class meets once per week, Thursdays, 9 am to noon, from January 23 through April 17, 2025, at Levy County Extension Center.
This course is for the novice, North Florida newcomer or veteran gardener. Facilitated by MGV coordinators, agents and specialists, the program covers fertilization, efficient watering, pesticide options, vegetables, fruit selection and more. In-person lecture, online presentations, videos, group and hands-on activities provide a comprehensive experience. MGV efforts make a positive difference in our communities. Certify as a MGV when you complete the course and provide 75 hours Extension volunteer service. “I learned a lot of great gardening tricks, that will help me improve my gardening techniques. Meeting and talking to like-minded gardeners are always a learning experience” shared G. Ross and Michael H. shared “working shifts at the [plant clinic] booth, are some of the best times I have enjoyed.” Note: University of Florida requires level one background screening for MGVs working with youth fewer than 10 hours per month.
