The City of Trenton finalized its tax rates and budget for the 2025 fiscal year.
The commission voted unanimously to set the general millage rate at 3.5 mills.
A budget of $3,146,071.88 was approved by a 5-0 vote.
The Community Redevelopment Fund’s budget was set at $241,812, and the Enterprise Fund’s budget was set at $2,108,080.
The commission also voted on increased compensation for the Mayor and Commissioners.
At an earlier meeting, Mayor Robbi Coarsey Avery said she hoped that increasing pay would make it easier for the commission to go to the public and participate in public events. Monday, she added that the new rates put Trenton in line with similar cities, such as Cross City
The proposed new pay rates raise the Mayor’s pay from $750 a month to $950 and commissioners’ pay from $625 a month to $725.
Along with retirement increases, this increases the budget by $11,436.
The vote was 4-1 to approve.
Craig Ruede voted against the increase, stating he was uncomfortable giving himself a raise.
