Trenton appoints interim City Manager

City sets salary range for new City Manager

Trenton appointed Deputy City Manager Brittany Mills to be the interim city manager at Monday’s meeting.
Mills will fill in for current City Manager Lyle Wilkerson when he leaves the position on Sept. 12.
Wilkerson recommended giving Mills a 25 percent raise while she performs the duty of city manager.
Wilkerson said Mills deserved the raise for the thing that made up “90 percent” of why he was leaving: dealing with some of the public.
“She won’t be able to go to Hitchcock’s to get dinner without someone trying to talk to her,” Wilkerson said.
The board voted 4-0 to appoint Mills to the position and agreed to the 25 percent raise to her current pay of $24.18 an hour. She will also receive a $1 an hour raise that was already planned to start in October.
Trenton also agreed on a salary range to advertise.
Wilkerson recommended setting the range between $55,000 and $85,000.
Wilkerson’s salary is currently $82,000, but he said he would not be offended if the city offered a qualified candidate more than that.
“We’ve done a lot of work,” Wilkerson said. “I don’t want to see it go backward.”
The commissioners agreed to set the salary at $55,000 to $85,000
The position will be advertised for 60 days before interviews start.
