ForVets recently completed the first planting of a butterfly garden at Otter Springs Campground and Park.
Makenzie Brugger, a ForVets board member who was in charge of the project, said the plants were donated by Heather Blake of Natural Treasures Farm and Nursery, Amy Oxner-Scott, and several members of the Garden Club of the Tri-Counties. Members of the Garden Club also helped design and plant the garden.
“Currently, pollinators are facing a decline due to habitat loss, use of pesticides and herbicides, and invasive flora and fauna,” Brugger said in an email. “The Otter Springs Butterfly Garden Project aims to assist pollinators by planting Florida native and non-invasive plants, while also providing a scenic and peaceful area that guests can enjoy.”
ForVets Inc. is a non-profit aimed at helping severely wounded veterans and is in the process of developing a facility called Camp Valor that will house and rehabilitate severely wounded veterans.
