FDC recognizes Career and Technical Education Month

FDC Press Release
As February comes to a close, the Florida Department of Corrections (FDC) proudly recognizes Career and Technical Education (CTE) Month and the vital role workforce training plays advancing public safety and successful re-entry.
Throughout the month, institutions across the state acknowledged the instructors, staff, and partners who contribute to the Department’s CTE efforts. FDC’s CTE programs remain a key component of its broader strategy to reduce recidivism, promote accountability and strengthen communities.
FDC currently offers 92 CTE courses across 37 distinct vocational trades spanning 11 career clusters aligned to Florida’s in-demand occupations. These programs integrate technical training, employability skill development, and industry-recognized credentialing to ensure returning citizens are job-ready upon release. Program expansion has been strengthened through partnerships with state colleges, technical colleges, and community providers. To date, more than 24,000 CTE credentials and certificates have been earned through Department programming.
“Career and Technical Education plays a critical role in strengthening public safety by equipping inmates with the skills and credentials necessary for successful re-entry,” said FDC Director of Programs and Re-entry Amy Frizzell. “These results demonstrate real accountability and real impact. By expanding access to workforce training, we are reducing recidivism, improving institutional stability, and supporting safer communities across Florida.”
Stable employment remains one of the strongest predictors of reduced recidivism. By continuing to invest in structured workforce development opportunities, FDC is supporting improved post-release outcomes while helping meet critical workforce needs across the state.
